My social ego gets the best of me

The previous post about the recycling fiesta on campus was provided by David, and now, he has provided me with two more events that are happening in Provo.

This Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m., the Friends of the Provo Library are having a book sale at well, the Provo Library. It is bound to be good fun, and a good way to spend your cash this post-Thanksgiving weekend (rather than participate in the hedonistic financial orgy that is Black Friday).

Also, later this Saturday evening, the International Cinema Club at BYU will be airing Ameilie. Says David, " I've heard good things about it, it should be interesting." It will be starting at 8:15 p.m. in room 250 in the SWKT.

Also coming up is the New Play Project's presentation of homegown plays in a collection called simply, "America." Dantzel and I attended their last presentation which was a collection of original plays dealing with Mormon culture.

I cannot say enough good things about the New Play Project. Started by a group of actors and playwrights who wanted to perform and write hard plays that provoked critical thinking without devolving into religion-bashing, swearing or frequent dirty or racist jokes, the last time they succeeded with some of the best Mormon stories I have yet to experience. They had just the right amount of wit, empathy and thinking to force the audience to reconsider their positions and views without a calloused challenging or cruel attempted destruction of their faith. Nor did it collapse into a joke fest that trivialized something as important as values and spirituality. And perhaps most importantly, it refused to answer all the questions in life. Too many times, Mormon authors and artists try to flaunt their religion by proclaiming they have all the answers, which is far from the truth. The New Play Project instead presented arguments and events, opposing views and theology, and then left the audience to reconcile them along with the characters on the stage.

It seems these people know what they're doing. I'm not sure when exactly they will be performing, but I do believe it is two weekends from now. More details will be forthcoming.

I'm not sure where David is getting this information, but he's quickly replacing my job in finding out the hidden gems in Provo.

So without further ado, some resturaunt reviews.

Last Thursday, upon arriving at Damae's and finding a note written on the waiting list saying "No more!", Troy, Kimberly, Dantzel and I went next door to the India Palace, which is, obviously, an Indian resturaunt. The prices were reasonable for a nice sit down resturaunt, and the decor was fantastic. Immediately, we were greeted by a smiling man in a turban who seated us, followed by a fantastic meal. None of us were disappointed in the very least, and all of us chose some fairly different dishes. Their bread is most excellent and highly recommended to purchase along with the meal, which isn't too hard, since the cheapest bread side is only $1.50. I would heartily recommend this resturaunt for those looking for something a bit more exotic for a meal.

Later during the week, Dantzel and I decided to go out for some pizza and went to our favorite pizza haunt, Pier 49 (both of these resturaunts are conviniently located next to Damae, in historic downtown Provo). Pier 49 has some fantastic pizza; we enjoyed a hearty pizza with pesto and sausage. They've also got pretty decent deals for dates and double dates as well, so it's a nice place to bring someone you're trying to woo. Unfortunately, the service on the times we went there can be a bit slow (as it seems to be run by mostly college students with little supervision). But the food more than makes up for it.

I just realized that David finds all the cultural events, while I find resturaunts. I feel like such a neandrathal. A fat, obese neandrathal with food dribbled all over his shirt.

"There will be NO FILMS next week (November 19-24). Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!"
Or is International Cinema Club different from International Cinema?
