Mental heartburn

My guilty pleasure:

Watching terrible History Channel shows that have nothing to do with actual, serious, academic history.

As my brother repeatedly asked me the whole winter vacation, "Why do you watch that crap? You know how it's going to end. They always end up finding no conclusive evidence for crop circles/UFOs/Bermuda Triangle/Santa Claus/the Holy Grail." But like some kind of tawdry, titillating trashy show, it appeals to the baser aspects of my intelligence, like eating a whole family size bag of jalapeno chips by yourself for the mind.

You get terrible heartburn halfway through it, and you can't respect yourself in the morning, but it sure was fun when you started.
